WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s team dug themselves into a hole on Thursday afternoon in their match versus St. Thomas University by dropping all three doubles portions of their match at Gaines Park. They would split the six decisions in singles on their way to a 6-3 loss versus the visiting Bobcats.
The loss drops the PBA women’s tennis to 3-2 after a win on Wednesday over Northwood University had brought the team into Thursday’s action with a three-match winning streak.
Victoria Baca and Natalia Trotter engaged in a tight #1-doubles matchup that eventually led the Bobcats duo to a 9-8 (6) win in a big momentum swing. The other two doubles match ups went 8-3 and 8-4 in favor of STU.
Baca and Vuokko Vahatalo led the team to early wins at the top of singles play with both needing three sets to do so. Baca earned a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win at #1-singles while Vahatahlo earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win at #2-singles.
St. Thomas would respond right back however with wins at #3, #4, and #5-singles to clinch the match. Krishna Domenech gave the Fish a win at #6-singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
