WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic’s top players stepped up for victories on Tuesday afternoon in a cross-town match with Northwood University however as everyone knows a team effort is often needed to secure a victory as the Seahawks claimed the 5-4 win over the Sailfish. The Fish would take the top spot in doubles action as well as the top two in singles but fall short on the overall strength of the NU squad.
The loss drops PBA to 2-2 on the season as they prepare for a busy stretch of matches coming up against teams from the Midwest and North during the annual spring break trips made by many non-Florida schools.
Junior Krasimir Atanasov teamed with Luke Bolanos for a #1-doubes win of 8-5 however Bastian Guenther and Alex Minicozzi would not be as fortunate at #2-doubles as they were defeated narrowly 9-8 (2) to even things up. NU took the lead with their #3-doubles win of 8-3 over PBA’s Jonathan Kalis and Evan Sahlman.
Atanasov and Guenther both came away with wins at the top two singles spots with solid victories and scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-2 respectively. After Bolanos was defeated at #3-singles, the Fish were still in control with another win at #4-singles by Minicozzi who polished off a come-from-behind win at 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Down the stretch however the Fish couldn’t rally another victory as Kalis and Cole Conley were both defeated at #5 and #6-singles to close out the match. Kalis’ match was especially draining as he finished with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 loss.
After a day off, the Fish will be back in action as they will take on St. Thomas University on Thursday, February 24th at Gaines Park at 3 pm.
