WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- As the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team has gained more notoriety both regionally and nationally with their solid play over the past several seasons, former players have found themselves coming back with more regularity as the current Sailfish softball team hosted the annual alumni game on Saturday afternoon at Howard Park. Despite wet conditions from heavy rains the night before, the former players took on the 2011 version of the Fish in a fun game for all.

Head coach Kimmy Bloemers along with assistant coach Ron Kotouch enlisted the help of some recent graduates in bringing the growing alumni group together for the annual game. 14 players in total were a part of the experience with many parents and supporters on hand despite the chilly and damp conditions.

Former Sailfish All-American right-hander Ashley Jones (10’) began in the pitching circle for the Alums with a full squad of support behind her as she battled against the current Sailfish starting lineup of players.

Throwing to former battery mate Candace Horton (10’) behind the plate, the tandem were part of a strong senior class last season that put together the strongest four-year stretch of performance on the field in program history while helping lead the team to a NCCAA National Championship in 2009 and a first-ever appearance at the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament in 2010. Also joining Jones and Horton from last year’s senior class was Dani Perrotti who contributed all over the field on Saturday.

Other contributors in the infield came from Vanessa Cocchioli (08’), Stacey Blackford, Kimmie Gant, and Sam Russo (08’) who all competed in the Blue and White during the last decade.

Patrolling the outfield were recent PBA graduates Rebecca Bolinger (09’), Jordan Laria (09’), Casey Gibson (08’), and Jen Kleier (05’). Giving the Fish some aide in the pitching circle was right-hander Casey Hayden (07’).

All the alums would move around the diamond during the day as laughs and memories were shared by everyone in attendance.

Next season’s alumni game is being planned for November. Those interested in participating in a future PBA Athletics Alumni event should contact the PBA Alumni Relations Office and Breanne Fairfax at: (561) 803-2016 or by email at breanne_fairfax@pba.edu.
