Veena Vasquez of Boynton Beach Begins PBA Women's Tennis Signings

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis head coach Chi Ly has announced his first national letter of intent signing for the 2012 season in Boynton Beach native Veena Vasquez. A product of Spanish River High School, Vasquez will add to the recent strong tradition of the Sailfish women’s tennis program when she begins classes next fall.
The daughter of Diomon and Rolen Vasquez, Veena has been a state qualifier in girls tennis at Spanish River High School since her freshman season. Vasquez competed at #3-singles for SRHS as a junior when her she claimed Florida High School Individual Girls State Championship for 4A at #3-singles.
In 2008 Vasquez was a part of a runner-up finish for her team in Class 4A at the state championships.
With Palm Beach Atlantic always hopeful of bringing in top local talent such as Vasquez, she was honored by CBS 12 News as Athlete of the Week for the week of May 17th, 2010. She was also recognized by both the Palm Beach Post and Sun-Sentinel as 1st-Team selections in 2009.
Not only a standout tennis player, Vasquez has also given her time as a worship leader for the Filipino-American Bible Mission, a mission of Palm Springs Baptist Church. A standout student as well, Vasquez is a member of the SRHS National Honor Society while being active in their Asian and Art Clubs at school.
With hopes of becoming a Pharmacy major at Palm Beach Atlantic, the future appears bright for Vasquez and the PBA women’s tennis program.
