Franklin Springs, GA- Opening up their 2007 season on the road, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team got things started in the right direction on Thursday evening with a 3-0 victory over Emmanuel College.
While three goals were scored by the Sailfish in their opening win, the same man was responsible for all three as junior Daniel Abrahamsohn (Pacifica, Cali.) netted a hat-trick in the victory over Emmanuel. In his second season now at PBA after starting his career at St. Mary’s University, Abrahamsohn will be counted on even more this season to help carry the Sailfish offense.
Perhaps an even more encouraging sign for head coach Jose Gomez and the Sailfish squad was the fact that the game was called after 71 minutes of action due to lightning in the area of the Emmanuel Field. Otherwise, Abrahamsohn and the rest of his teammates may have been able to add on additional scores.
Second-year goalkeeper Joseph Yurchak (Lakeland, Fla.) started in goal for the Sailfish and notched his first shutout of the season.
Three different PBA players assisted Abrahamsohn on the scores as freshman Kyle Crouse (Lakeland, Fla.), sophomore Johnathon Clark (Lakeland, Fla.) and junior Chance Sumner (Valrico, Fla.) registered their first marks in the scorebook on the season as PBA dominated the attacking-half of the field.
PBA will next take on St. Andrew Presbyterian University in Laurinburg, North Carolina at 2:00 p.m. as they finish up their weekend trip to the southeast before heading home to West Palm Beach.
