WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- On a warm, sunny day in South Florida, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team had no problems putting together an aggressive offense as they scored early and often against visiting Warner University. Contributing four goals alone, Senior Angie Kuhn led the Sailfish to a collaborative and explosive 8-0 victory over the Royals.

After blistering five shots within the first three minutes of play, the Fish connected on their sixth as sophomore Juliet Waller blasted a ball, played in by Andrea Jefferson, just inside the left corner of the post, giving PBA the early 1-0 advantage.

Roughly three minutes later, Kuhn registered her first goal of the day after teammates Katie Runyon and Waller connected on a set play and found their senior forward at the top of the box. A quick pivot around her defender left Kuhn wide open to net goal number 12 on the season, and push the Sailfish lead to two.

PBA continued to pressure the Royal back line as sophomore Ashley Shoaf stole a ball near the end line and dribbled in, lacing the upright in the 17th minute. Goal number four on the day occurred much the same way as, not even a minute later, Waller muscled her way through the last defender and blazed the far left corner of the net from beyond the right edge of the box.

Before the close of the first half, Kuhn would collect her second goal on the day off of a through ball placed by sophomore Gabby Lopez, totaling a 5-0 lead at halftime.

The Fish stayed hot in the second period, collecting three more goals on Royal keeper Heather Romanosky with Kuhn contributing two of those on her way to a game and season-high four goals in one match. Knotting PBA’s sixth goal of the day, Kuhn ran down a through ball from Sailfish goalkeeper Allison Fox and found herself facing a lone Romanosky.

Kuhn would have her hand in the final two goals as she posted the 7-0 lead in the 67th minute, and later fed sophomore Meagan Phillips on a 1-2 cross to the center of the box. Phillips netted her first goal of the year, completing the 8-0 shutout for PBA this afternoon.

“A great offensive output tonight. Warner is no slouch, they have had some fantastic results this year. We were really able to stick to our game plan and go at them early, which we did and it showed in our attacking the first 15 minutes.  We are still tweaking a few things but looking good and the engine keeps moving forward so we are very happy with the result tonight,” concluded head coach James Kryger.

Despite a superb offensive performance from the Sailfish attacking third, the PBA defense paced the tempo by stifling all WU forward efforts. Behind Fox, who earned her sixth shutout on the season, defenders Courtney Calhoun, Alex Regin, and Alyssa DeMonte held the Royals to only four shots on the day.

The Fish will take a couple days off before their next match featuring visiting Clearwater Christian University. Please join us in celebrating Senior Night on Friday, November 5th where seniors Angie Torres, Alex Regin, and Angie Kuhn will be honored for their careers in a Sailfish uniform. That match is set to take place at 4 pm at Magic Jack field.
