GREENVILLE, S.C.- Although the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s cross country regular season is now complete, the Sailfish now turn their focus to the upcoming postseason meets that could be coming their way. For junior Meghan Gilmore, the regular season has produced four top-five finishes in as many races while earning a runner-up finish in her last race at the Stetson University Hatters Invitational. For her efforts the Sailfish standout has been named the NCCAA National Runner of the Week for Oct. 11-17.
The NCCAA weekly honor is the third time this season that Gilmore has taken home the award as she continues to compile impressive times at various races.
Last weekend the Asheville, North Carolina native and former T.C. Roberson High School standout posted a season-best time of 17:39 in the women’s 5K race at Stetson University. Up against a strong field including many NCAA Division I runners, Gilmore finished second in the race just six seconds behind the winner, Freiderike Feil from Florida Atlantic University.
As has been the case in a few of her other races this season, Gilmore finished as the only non-NCAA Division I runner in the top-8 of the final individuals as she help lead her team to a season-best finish of fourth place overall as a team. Morgan Skiwra and Victoria Cabrera, both PBA freshmen, also claimed top-20 finishes to aid the Sailfish cause.
