February 15, 2008
SAINT LEO, Fla.- Opening up yet another big weekend of early-season baseball action, Palm Beach Atlantic University took the defeat on Friday evening against Saint Leo University at Southard Stadium. The Lions pushed across runs in each of the first five innings on their way to an 8-2 victory.
The Sailfish sent senior right-hander Owen Grau (Kalamazoo, Mich.) to the mound for the series opener on Friday which will feature a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 1 pm.
While dominating at times to the tune of seven strikeouts in only five innings, Grau (0-3) was also roughed up on the mound as the Lions struck for eight runs including five in the first two innings.
PBA got on the board in the ninth inning when sophomore first-baseman Tony Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa.) blasted his third homerun of the spring to cap the scoring at 8-2.
Saint Leo left-hander Ryan Clark earned the victory for the Lions as he sparkled by limiting the Sailfish offense to only one hit over 6 1/3 innings before giving way to the bullpen work of Santi Arencibia who finished out the ballgame.
Beyond the Livelsberger homer, second-baseman Mariano Jimenez (Bradenton, Fla.) added in a double and shortstop Billy Falconio (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) chipped in a single to round out the Sailfish three-hit attack.
Freshman hurler Brett Hammann (Gaithersburg, Md.) tossed three perfect innings with three strikeouts for the Fish.
