ATLANTA, Ga.- Prior to their trek to northern Georgia for a quick two-game series last weekend, none of the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer players had any idea they would have the unique opportunity to watch the afternoon training session of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team. Personally invited onto the practice field by US National Team midfielder Megan Rapinoe, four Sailfish team members, along with the coaching staff, were able to view the entire practice from the sideline.

The Sailfish kicked off the afternoon with an exclusive tour of the Atlanta Beat soccer stadium, located on the campus of Kennesaw State University. Upon completing their exploration of the field, locker rooms, and additional stadium facilities, the small PBA group waited around to sneak a peek at the National Team’s practice on the nearby practice field. Fully anticipating having to watch from outside the facility, they received a rare invitation permitting them to watch up close and personal.

Perhaps the greatest part of the day took place when the Sailfish were introduced to US goalkeeper, Hope Solo. Currently sidelined as she recovers from shoulder surgery, Solo recognized the opportunity to pour into a group of adoring fans as she took time out of the practice session to meet and greet the women’s soccer players.

What might have seemed like a routine trip to Atlanta turned out to be one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences for the seven individuals from the PBA women’s soccer team. While coming home with a weekend series sweep of South Carolina opponents was great, the chance to watch world class soccer firsthand was simply icing on the cake.
