Justin Mikesell Logs Top Time for Sailfish at Mountain Dew Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- Lacing up for their second race of the young season, the Sailfish men’s cross country team took part in the Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday morning on the campus of the University of Florida. One of the biggest races of the season, the Sailfish claimed a 17th place finish while freshman Justin Mikesell claimed the top time for PBA on the day.
A Peoria, Illinois native, Mikesell finished the difficult men’s 8K race with a time of 29:12 as he claimed the 126th best time of the race.
The University of Florida claimed both the team title (22 points) and the individual title as UF junior josh Izewski earned the individual championship a time of 24:39 (4:57 mile).
Chris Lopez and Nicholas Joseph, both of which who are freshman also, claimed the next places in line for PBA at 31:01 and 31:14. Andrew Rodberg, a freshman and local product from The King’s Academy, was next up for the Fish with a 31:56 time while veterans Kyle Pryce (33:24) and Kyle Mason (34:27) followed. Brad Treen was right behind Pryce and Mason with a time of 34:50.
After a few weeks off from competitive racing, the Blue and White will be back at it again on October 9th as they will travel to Orlando, Florida and participate in another large race at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Invitational.
