Sailfish Cross Country Announces Incoming Class

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With the competitive long-distance running seasons only a few weeks away, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s and women’s cross country programs are beginning preparations to what they hope to be a rewarding season. Head coach Sonja Friend-Uhl has announced some valued additions to both teams rosters as the Sailfish are primed for a fantastic season.
Skwira ran cross country for Walton High school under Coach Travis Gower in Marietta, GA. Throughout her 4 years of running cross-country she received the "outstanding Performance" Award. This was given to her after running a personal best of 19:03. After battling a hip injury for almost a year, she came back the next Cross-country season received the "Comeback Award" from her coaches. Just this past cross-country season (her senior year), she ran 19:52 at the Footlocker Regional Championships.
While Victoria was homeschooled for 11 years, she remained athletically active participating in tennis, soccer, and basketball before finally falling in love with cross country and track and field. She ultimately began to focus strictly in long distance running in her high school years at Timber Creek High School, in Orlando FL; where she ran an 800 meter personal best of 2.36. She also set a school records of 5.20 in the 1500 meter, 11.52 for the 3200 meter. She quickly established herself as a dedicated and hard worker athletically and academically. Her leadership qualities became evident, and was voted by her teammates to be Captain of the Cross Country and Track long distance team while also maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Valencia Community College where she also obtained her AA this past summer. She participated in 5K State Finals in 2007. In 2009 Victoria PR’d at Regionals with a 19.47 to qualify for states where she placed 34th. The FACA All-star meet extended an invitation in which she enthusiastically participated in Tallahassee. Some of her Timber Creek high school highlights are as follows: was named Most Valuable Runner of the Year in 2007 and Distance Runner of the Year in 2009 and 2010.
