SKILLMAN, N.J.- After a solid end to the 2010 tennis campaign for the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released their final rankings of the year. The listing ranks the top teams, singles, and doubles participants at each level of collegiate competition. Sailfish sophomore Krasimir Atanasov closes out the 2010 season ranked #21 in singles in the NCAA Division II rankings, the highest finish ever for a PBA tennis player.
Having played at the #1-singles position ever since arriving on campus two years ago, Atanasov continues to make a name for himself within the NCAA South Region which is arguably the toughest in the country. Atanasov’s #21 national-ranking is two spots higher than former Sailfish great Brock Newton who concluded the 2008 season with a #23 national ranking after his senior season.
Atanasov wasn’t the only Sailfish tennis player recognized in the rankings as he was joined by fellow sophomore Luke Bolanos in the doubles rankings. Coming in at #13 in the South Region, the combination of Atansov and Bolanos ranks #34 in the national doubles rankings making them the first duo ever ranked by the ITA in school history.
With a strong group of incoming recruits joining the likes of Atanasov, Bolanos, and others, the Sailfish men’s tennis team appears poised to make another run at a NCAA postseason berth in 2011.
