WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With a large senior class to replace, Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer coach Jose Gomez and his staff have been busy seeking out top talent to help replenish the Sailfish roster heading into the 2010 season. Two of the early signees of the National Letter of Intent are Tyler Sanders from Evans, Georgia and Evan Singlar of Currituck, North Carolina.
Tyler Sanders will report to PBA in the fall for his freshman season as a Sailfish after a solid prep career at Greenbrier High School where he was a three-year varsity starter and led his team to multiple playoff berths in the Georgia state semifinals and quarterfinals. During his sophomore season, Sanders led his team and the county with 13 assists.
While playing for the August Arsenal club, Sanders’ squad earned club championships at the 2007 Germantown Soccer Showcase and the 2008 Adidas College Showcase.
Not only a standout on the soccer field, Sanders also was involved in a number of other activities and causes. A strong academic performer with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5, Sanders was also a member of the Debate Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) during his time at GHS.
“I’m looking forward to the faith-based atmosphere that will help support and encourage me to motivate others for one cause. PBA will provide both the educational and the faithful encouragement necessary to learn and grow overall,” said Sanders upon his decision to sign the NLI with the Sailfish.
“We are very happy to bring in a young man the quality of Tyler. His experience on the soccer field matched with his strong character and intangibles off the field make him a great fit for our team moving forward,” said Gomez.
Adding to the mix as an attacker in the future will be the addition of Evan Singlar who was a three-time All-Conference selection while playing at Currituck County High School as a four-year starter. The Most Valuable Player for his high-school squad as a senior, Singlar also was named the All-Area Player of the Year.
“Evan is a great fit for PBA. He will mesh fantastically with the Christian values we hold here at PBA while also providing options in the attack,” said Gomez.
In addition to his All-Area accolade, Singlar was also named to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association All-Region Team as a senior and named the Offensive Player of the Year of the Northeastern Coastal Conference.
An honors graduate and a four-time Academic All-Conference selection, it is expected that Singlar will be a great match with PBA on and off the field.
“I am really excited about the opportunities that lie ahead while attending Palm Beach Atlantic University. As a Christian, I am eager to continue my worship through college and as an athlete. My desire is to use my talents in such a way that I make a positive impact on my team, as well as others around me. As I embark on my future at PBA I know that my success depends greatly upon what I bring to my team, fellow students, and the community of West Palm Beach,” concluded Singlar.
