WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- After a stellar end to a remarkable career in a Sailfish uniform, Palm Beach Atlantic University senior pitcher Ashley Jones has collected yet another individual accolade as she was named on Wednesday as a Daktronics All-Region selection. Leading the NCAA South Region in earned-run average and strikeouts, Jones culminated her season by leading her team to the championship game of the South sub-region against eventual champion Valdosta State.

Having wrapped up a spectacular four-year playing career, Jones reached the pinnacle of her success at the South Regional tournament this past week when the senior from Jensen Beach, Florida started all four games of the tournament including three games against #2-ranked Valdosta State. In total, Jones racked up 30 innings pitched in the three-day event while allowing only six earned runs, 14 hits, and striking out 33 batters.

For the season, the former Jensen Beach High School product managed a record of 24-9 with a 1.05 ERA in 40 total appearances. Jones produced career  highs in nearly every statistical category including strikeouts (309), innings pitched (233.1), shutouts (11), and saves (3) while holding batters to an impressive .171 batting average.

Named to the Daktronics All-Region 1st Team, Jones finished runner-up in the region to Rollins College freshman Kirsten Frame who finished 30-2 on the season with a 1.32 earned-run average and 305 strikeouts in her first season with the Tars who also reached the NCAA South Regional. Frame was  honored as the region’s Pitcher of the Year.

Becca Tipton of the University of Arkansas-Monticello was named the Daktronics Player of the Year after leading the Cotton Blossoms to the upcoming NCAA Super Regional at Valdosta State where UAM will battle VSU in a best of three series.

The Daktronics awards are voted upon by the regional Sports Information Directors with Jones being the first-ever PBA student-athlete honored with an All-Region selection from the Daktronics listing. Jones will look to make history again if she is named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team later this week. The NFCA awards are voted upon by the region coaches who are members of the NFCA.
