INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- For the first time in program history and second in school history, a Palm Beach Atlantic University athletic team has earned a bid to the NCAA postseason tournament. Announced on Wednesday as a South Regional participant was the Sailfish women’s tennis team. With PBA now in their third year of full NCAA Division II status, the women’s tennis team joins the men’s tennis team from 2008 as NCAA regional tournament participants.
Under the guidance of head coach Chi Ly, the women’s tennis team will take on Delta State (Miss.) University on Thursday, May 6th as their first-round regional opponent to be held in Miami Shores, Florida on the campus of Barry University.
With a record of 10-9 against a very tough NCAA South region schedule, the Lady Sailfish have tallied wins this season over the likes of the University of Tampa and the University of West Alabama while also notching out-of-region matches like St. Cloud State University and Minnesota State-Mankato.
Delta State enters regional play with a 12-6 record as they are members of the Gulf South Conference with their mascot being the Lady Statesmen. DSU finished as runner-up to the University of West Florida in the Gulf South Conference regular season title chase. They tallied victories over the likes of Southern Arkansas University, Henderson State University, Harding University, Christian Brothers University, and Alcorn State University.
If the Sailfish win, they will take on host Barry Unviersity on Friday, May 7th.
