MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Hitting the road for their first match in nine days, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team had a tough challenge as they took on #12-ranked (NAIA) St. Thomas University on Saturday afternoon. The Sailfish gave a solid effort but came just short as they were defeated 6-3 to fall to 8-5 on the season.
After Krasimir Atanasov and Luke Bolanos put away a victory at #1-doubles, the Sailfish were hoping for much the same in the final two stages of doubles competition however they would come painstakingly close but fall short.
STU claimed tie-breaker wins at both doubles rounds with victories of 9-8 (6) at #2-doubles and 9-8 (5) at #3-doubles as the Bobcats claimed a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
Atanasov took care of business at the top once again however the sophomore leader of the Fish would only be joined by senior Tyler Dealy in the winner’s column as Atanasov won 6-3, 7-6 (5) while Dealy came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win for PBA at #4-singles.
Both Frankie Moulton and Corey Kuglin would fall victim to tie-breaker losses at the final two spots as the Fish dropped the match.
PBA will be heading back to their home court on Tuesday, March 30th when they battle against the University of West Alabama at 2 p.m. at Gaines Park.
