ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.- In what appeared to be a match heading for another Sailfish victory on Saturday afternoon quickly turned into a defeat as the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team was upended by Eckerd College by a late rally and a 5-4 win for the Tritons. EC won the final three singles matchups to tally the victory.
Palm Beach Atlantic tallied two of the three doubles wins with #1 and #3 winning by the scores of 9-8 (2) and 8-1. #2-doubles was handed another tight defeat at 8-6.
Krasimir Atanasov started the upswing at #1-singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win however #2-singles standout Alex Minicozzi was forced to retire the match due to injury and fell at #2-singles.
After Luke Bolanos gave the Sailfish a fourth victory at #3-singles by a 7-5, 6-2 score, it would appear the Fish would be in control with needing only one more win in the final three games. That would not happen on this day however as the Tritons won all three including a three-set loss by Frankie Moulton at #4-singles.
PBA will be away from the court for the next few weeks as their next scheduled match is for Saturday, March 27th when they travel to St. Thomas University.
