Box Score

TAMPA, Fla.- After an exciting win on Wednesday to close out their regular season at home, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball team was unable to duplicate those results on Saturday as they traveled to the University of Tampa for their final road regular season contest. After PBA held a slim 38-36 halftime lead, the Spartans used a 13-2 in the second-half to secure the victory as they went on to earn an 83-75 win.

Palm Beach Atlantic (3-23) shot nearly identical in both halves of action on Saturday at the Bob Martinez center with the first-half connecting at a 41.9% (13-31) clip while the second-half proved to be similar with a 41.7% (12-29) shooting performance.

Unfortunately for the Sailfish, the University of Tampa was awarded double the amount of trips to the free-throw line in the second-half as they cashed in on 21-of-26 attempts from the charity stripe during the second-half while shooting 80% overall from line for the ballgame.

After the slim two-point lead at halftime after falling down to the Spartans by as many as ten points in the first-half, the second stanza seemed to be going the Sailfish way as they led by a game-high seven points at 43-36 with 17:22 remaining in the game. That all changed quickly however as UT spun off a 13-2 run that put them back on top while maintaining a similar type lead the remainder of the contest.

Senior Chris Joseph led the Sailfish scoring efforts on Saturday with 20 points including 13 of those coming in the second-half on 6-of-13 from the field. Guards Jonathan Lawrence and DeAndre Williams both reached double-figures as well with 17 and 13 points respectively  with Williams cashing in on all nine of his free-throws. Junior forward Hunter Ross added in 10 points and nine rebounds with three assists in 24 minutes.

PBA also saw a solid performance off their bench from freshman Matthew Gierl who hit all three of his long-range attempts as he posted nine points in 11 minutes of court time.

Leading the Spartans (11-15) was sharp-shooter Rashad Callaway who nailed 5-of-10 from beyond the arc while proving very efficient at the free-throw line with a 10-of-11 mark for a game-high 29 points. Forward Marcus Morrison also chipped in a solid night with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds.

With the regular season now complete, the Sailfish will now turn their focus to the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) South Regional Tournament that PBA will host on March 8th-9th at the Rubin Arena. Stay tuned to for more details about the tournament.
