MELBOURNE, Fla.- After a tough 6-3 loss on Saturday, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis team went on the road on Tuesday afternoon for an important NCAA South Region matchup against the likes of Florid Tech. After dropping two of three in doubles, the Sailfish fired back by winning four of six singles games to win the match 5-4.
Matching up the #37-ranked team in the preseason NCAA Division II rankings (PBA) and #36 (FIT), the match was obviously close as expected.
After Alex Minicozzi and Nick Hines were defeated at #3-doubles (8-1) and seniors Frankie Moulton and Tyler Dealy (8-5) were also dealt a tough loss at #2-doubles, it would be up to the team’s #1-duo of Krasimir Atanasov and Luke Bolanos to trigger the team’s comeback. The sophomore duo did just that as they fought through a 9-7 win to get the Fish on the board.
Bolanos continued his good work in singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #3-singles followed by Hines dropping #6-singles by a similar 6-1, 6-1 tally.
Moulton and Dealy would then step up for the Fish at #4 and #5 singles respectively as both players collected two set victories.
It would then be in the hands of Atanasov who closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win at #1-singles as PBA improves to 2-2 on the season.
