Women's Tennis Delivers First Win of the Season Over Brandeis University

ORLANDO, Fla.- Traveling north for a neutral site match with Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team secured a 6-3 win over BU to improve their record to 1-4 on the young season. PBA swept the doubles portion of the match and followed with singles victories by Lina Rubiano, Natalia Trotter, and Jordan Ittersagen.

A NCAA Division III institution, Brandeis is currently on their Spring Break and for the second consecutive year have taken on the Sailfish at a neutral location. The Lady Fish defeated Brandeis 7-2 last season.

Rubiano and Trotter teamed up for a #1-doubles victory in dominating fashion as they won 8-1 while Aleman and Amber Braaten put forth a similar effort at 8-4 to win at #2-doubles. Ittersagen and junior Krishna Domenech collected a narrow win at 9-7 at #3-doubles.

The singles portion of the match was hotly contested as four of the six matchups went to three sets with PBA winning three of the four that went the extra time.

Rubiano came away with 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 wins at #1-singles while Trotter did much the same at #3-singles with 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 set victories. Ittersagen was forced to play catch up at #5-singles as she was defeated 4-6 in the opening set but fought back for 6-3, 6-1 wins in the final two sets.

PBA now will gear up for a busy and exciting week of tennis. They will first take on Concordia University in another neutral site contest on Thursday, February 25th at 4 p.m. followed by a neutral site match against rival Northwood University on Saturday, February 27th at 1 p.m. at the Delray Tennis Center.
