GREENVILLE, S.C.- With most of the countries NCCAA schools not yet started with their spring softball seasons I suppose it isn’t suprising that Palm Beach Atlantic University senior Ashley Jones was awarded this week’s recipient of the NCCAA Player of the Week however her numbers certainly back up the accolade. Going 2-0 with a pair of shutouts during last week, Jones earns her first NCCAA Player of the Week honor of the season after being named the recipient twice last season.
Jones tossed a season-opening 9-0 win over Northwood University on Wednesday while tallying 11 strikeouts in the process then turned around and gave the Fish another solid showing on Saturday in a 2-0 win over Eckerd College on the road. Jones managed seven strikeouts in that contest.
For the week, the Jensen Beach native logged 12 innings while registering 18 strikeouts, four hits allowed, and no runs.
Jones is coming off a 22-9 season as a junior where she was named NCCAA Pitcher of the Year and the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season.
