WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Taking to the Rubin Arena floor for the final time, seniors Mallory Allen and Kristine Webb helped lead the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team to a solid victory on Tuesday evening as the Sailfish women’s basketball team celebrated Senior Night with a 69-49 win over Ave Maria University.

Avenging a 70-53 loss at Ave Maria back on January 28th, the Lady Fish jumped out of the gate quickly and never looked back as they tallied their sixth win of the season in their final contest. PBA utilized a balanced scoring attack as five players scored at least nine points while no player scored more than 12 points.

Freshman Meredith Treat began the game with five straight points including draining her only three-pointer of the night on the game’s opening possession as she posted all nine of her points in the first-half.

After a few more quick Selethia Jackson baskets put the Fish up early by a 9-4 tally, the Blue and White would begin to add to their lead as they piled on the points in the first stanza. The first-half lead would grow to as many as 15 points in the opening half when freshman guard Ashley Dolberry tallied a layup with 1:36 to go in the half as PBA led 36-21.

AMU added one more basket before the close of the half and trailed 36-23 going into the lockerooms for intermission.

The Lady Gyrenes would narrow the lead back to single digits in the early portion of the second stanza when Erika Derks made good on a pair of free-throws to cut the PBA advantage to only 36-27 with 18:57 left in the ballgame;  however a three-pointer from sophomore Jordan Kong grabbed the lead right back into double-figures the next possession.

The lead grew to as many as 28 points in the second-half when Webb tossed in a layup with 4:01 remaining to put PBA in front 67-39.

Dolberry finished 4-of-8 from the field and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line for a team-high 12 points while Kong followed right behind with 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and 4-of-8 overall. Dolberry also nabbed five steals in the win.

Jackson added a double-double to the mix with 10 points and 12 rebounds while junior forward Liz Fugate chipped in with 10 points and a team-high five assists off the bench in 21 minutes of action.

AMU was led by 11 points off the bench from Brittany Todd who registered a 4-of-10 shooting performance including 2-of-4 from three-point distance. Emily Huber collected nine points.

The Lady Gyrenes won the rebounding battle at 46-37 but simply had trouble taking care of the basketball as they were forced into 27 turnovers by the Sailfish defense while PBA was credited with 14 turnovers. PBA finished with a solid 44% (29-66) shooting mark while AMU was limited to a 31% (17-55) total mark.

For Allen and Webb, who were honored with a post-game ceremony,  it was their last time putting on the Sailfish jersey in a collegiate game, and for their many contributions both on and off the court, we at PBA Athletics say a special thank you. We are proud of your accomplishments and what the Lord has in store for your lives after graduation.
