Lady Fish Struggle with Turnovers as St. Thomas Tallies Home Win

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team hit the road on Tuesday evening to take on St. Thomas University for the first of three games this week for the Lady Sailfish. A battle from the opening tip, the Sailfish were never able to get into a rhythm and stumbled against the Bobcats by a final tally of 63-48. 

Senior Kristine Webb gave the Sailfish a strong offensive showing off the bench with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting however it wouldn’t be enough as the team had 28 turnovers accompanied by a 36.7% shooting night.

Freshman Ashley Dolberry collected eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists to aide the Sailfish cause before fouling out.

STU placed two players in double-figures including a double-double by forward Alexanria Vanderpool with game-high honors of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Amanda Fernandez added 12 points as well. The Bobcats came away with a 39.1% shooting percentage while grabbing 18 steals.  Nickerline Montina led the defensive effort with six thefts while Cindy Castillon added in four steals to go with seven points and eight rebounds.

The win for the Bobcats pushes their record to 12-7 on the season while PBA drops to 5-13.

PBA will try and right the ship by traveling to Ave Maria University on Thursday, January 28th for a 7 p.m. matchup.
