LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team traveled across the state of Florida on Saturday to take on Florida Southern College in Lakeland for the first of two PBA-FSC basketball games on the day at the Jenkins Field House. It would be all Moccasins on this night in the opener as the Lady Mocs swept the season series with PBA by taking an 86-50 victory over the Fish.
Five Florida Southern (15-3) players reached double-figures on the night while 12 players registered at least two points as the Mocs continued what has been a strong season thus far that finds them near the top of the Sunshine State Conference standings.
Continuing what has been a rough stretch of late for the Lady Sailfish (5-13), Palm Beach Atlantic was unable to slow down the high-powered and balanced attack of the Lady Mocs while allowing their opponent 86 points, nearly 20 points more than their average defensively.
Freshman Meredith Treat led the Fish in scoring with nine points however it came on a 3-of-13 shooting performance as the team never seemed to get into an offensive rhythm. The Mocs led 41-26 at halftime.
Following Treat in the scoring column was junior Liz Fugate who produced eight points and five rebounds but committed six of the team’s 28 turnovers. Freshmen guards Ashley Dolberry and Samantha Harvey each chipped in with six points while Harvey played a solid overall game with a 2-of-4 showing from the field with a team-high eight rebounds and three assists.
Nicolle DiRaimo tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Mocs with Megan Dsikas and Krystian Thompson also each adding 14 points respectively. Michaela Hawley reached double-double status with 10 points and 10 boards while Chelsea Johnson connected on both of her three-point attempts and finished with 10 points in only 16 minutes of court time.
Palm Beach Atlantic continues their recent road swing next week as they will travel to St. Thomas University on Tuesday, January 26th for a 7 p.m. showdown followed by a road date with Ave Maria University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th.
