WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- After a solid run to end their 2009 season that saw the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team win seven out of their final eight games, the team now has the opportunity to watch as some much deserved postseason individual accolades come rolling in. A big part of the second-half season turnaround was due to the strong offensive play of junior Angie Kuhn and the defensive marking abilities of fellow junior Brittany Gahan.
The main offensive weapon for second-year head coach James Kryger, Kuhn came away with her best season yet as a Sailfish as she finished with team-high honors of 15 goals and four assists for a total of 34 points. For her efforts, Kuhn was named to a pair of postseason lists. First, the North Fort Meyers native was named NSCAA/NCAA All-Region 3rd -Team in becoming the second PBA women’s soccer player named to a NCAA All-Region team joining teammate Alex Regin who was named to the NCAA All-Region team after the 2007 season.
In addition to her NCAA accolades, Kuhn was also named NCCAA South Region Player of the Year and a member of the NCCAA All-American 2nd-Team. This is the second time in Kuhn’s career that she has been recognized on the NCCAA All-American team after earning Honorable Mention following her freshman season in 2007.
For Gahan, the 2009 season has been one that has displayed her hard work put in during the offseason as she developed into one of Coach Kryger’s top defensive players while often times marking the top offensive player on the opponent. For her good work, Gahan was named NCCAA All-Region and a NCCAA All-American 2nd-Team selection as well.
While playing top notch defense, Gahan also added in an assist on the season.
