WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With the 2009 men’s soccer season now officially complete after last week’s trip to the NCCAA National Soccer Tournament, the postseason accolades have begun to roll in for members of the Sailfish team. For the second consecutive season, Sailfish defender Cheyne Roberts has been honored as a member of the NSCAA/NCAA Division II South Region Team, while Roberts is joined by fellow senior Johnathon Clark as a recipient of NCCAA All-American status.
Having been honored by the NSCAA/NCAA after both his junior and senior seasons, Roberts closes out an impressive and decorated career in a Sailfish soccer uniform. After being named to the All-Region 2nd Team after last year, Roberts improved his stock even more in the always-competitive South Region this year by earning a spot on the 1st-Team.
With the 1st-Team recognition, Roberts is now eligible for All-American recognition with that vote set to take place in the coming days. Roberts two-time selection on the NSCAA/NCAA All-Region team are the two highest honors ever bestowed on a PBA men ‘s soccer player at the NCAA level. The Fish just completed their third year as a full NCAA Division II member.
Having coached Roberts during his entire tenure in a PBA uniform, the honor doesn’t come as much of a surprise to PBA head coach Jose Gomez.
“PBA soccer is built on ministry and Cheyne understands the requirements of the program. He has excelled as a Christian student-athlete and I am excited to hear what the Lord will do in his life. Cheyne’s career has been outstanding and his contributions to the team will be missed,” said Gomez.

Joining Roberts on the NCCAA honor list is Clark who will take home NCCAA All-American 2nd-Team honors after leading the team in goals with 10 and tied for the team lead in assists with six. A senior product of Lakeland, Florida, Clark added to an already solid PBA career this year with an outstanding senior season performance.
Closing out the PBA honors at the NCCAA tournament were Roberts, Clark, and fellow senior Chance Sumner being named to the NCCAA All-Tournament team after leading the team to a 1-1-1 showing at the event.
