WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- For the second consecutive season the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team has been honored for their work in the classroom by earning the prestigious Adidas Team Academic Award handed out by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The overall team grade-point average must be at least a 3.0.
The honor reflects the good work done by the Sailfish women’s soccer team over the 2008-2009 academic year with the team easily making the 3.0 gpa plateau with a solid 3.25 overall mark.
Having just finished his second season in command of the PBA women’s soccer program, head coach James Kryger has now helped lead his team to back-to-back NSCAA/Adidas Team Academic Awards while also leading the team back to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament that was played last week.
The Fish tallied a 2-1 mark at the tournament with victories over Dallas Baptist University and Grace College while their only defeat came at the hands of eventual national champion, The Master’s College in a narrow 1-0 loss in overtime in the tournament’s first-round. Representatives of the NCCAA South Region had not scored a goal or notched a victory at the National Tournament in four seasons. The Blue and White closed out their campaign with an 11-9-1 record.
PBA clinched their spot at the NCCAA National Tournament by winning the NCCAA South Region title.
Upon the completion of the National Tournament, freshman defender Courtney Calhoun was honored as a member of the All-Tournament team.
Announcement of the NCCAA All-American teams should be released in the coming days.
