PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- Just before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team made their now annual appearance at the Big Heart Brigade/Christ Fellowship Thanksgiving community outreach event of preparing meals for needy families in Palm Beach County and beyond. Each player worked side-by-side in the process of gathering food for those less fortunate so that they may have a warm dinner on Thanksgiving.
All fifteen Sailfish players and head coach Kimmy Bloemers participated in the effort as just a small group of the over 1,000 volunteers that once again stepped up for this outstanding effort.
The Fish gathered at Fire Station #3 on Northlake Boulevard just near the CF main campus for their assigned assembly-line station where they would prepare everything from turkey to mashed potatoes and more. The entire operation had a goal of 50,000 meals in total to be prepared for distribution.
With the idea of workship being a vital part of the Palm Beach Atlantic student experience, taking the time as a team to volunteer for such a worthy cause is exactly what Coach Bloemers is looking for in her team.
“It was a lot of work as we made meals within an assembly-line but it was a great opportunity for us to serve. We were tired by the end but it was a wonderful time together,” said the fourth year head coach of the Sailfish.
Special thanks to Kimmy Bloemers and Kim Doney for providing pictures of the event.
