VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball team closed out their weekend trip to the Peach State on Saturday evening with a matchup against #3-ranked and undefeated Valdosta State University in the final game of the Loop Pizza Grill Classic. While the Fish held close for most of the contest, the Blazers proved too strong towards the end and came away with a 69-53 victory to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Palm Beach Atlantic (1-8) was paced by an outstanding performance from junior forward Hunter Ross who led all scorers on the night at the P.E. Complex with 22 points on 7-of-13 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. The North Palm Beach native also pulled down a team-high nine boards while reaching his career-high point total against VSU.
Outside the solid play of Ross, the Sailfish struggled to find any offensive consistency as they managed a 38.5% shooting mark for the night by connecting on 20-of-52 shots from the field and 4-of-21 from beyond the arc for a 19% showing from downtown.
VSU was paced by 13 points each from All-American Tyrone Curnell, Marvin Dibble, and Ricardo Lewis. Tristan Crawford and Christian Hunter each added in nine points off the bench.
In a slow-down style game, the Sailfish limited VSU to just 69 points as the Blazers entered play averaging over 91 points per contest while neither team committed more than 10 turnovers.
Following Ross in the scoring column for PBA were 10 points each from Jonathan Lawrence and sophomore shooter Phil Pejovic with both players making 2-of-6 shots from beyond the arc.
The Sailfish return home to Palm Beach County for their next outing as they will make the short drive to Lynn University on Thursday, December 10th in Boca Raton, Florida for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Fighting Knights.
