Women's soccer wins on Day 2 of NCCAA Nationals

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Following a disappointing loss to second-seeded Indiana Wesleyan on Friday, the Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) women’s soccer team (seeded seventh) defeated Asbury College 2-1 on Saturday.

Meg Agnew and Jessica Rodriguez each scored for the Sailfish in the first half.  Agnew’s goal came almost at the very beginning of the game at 2:30.  Rodriguez then drilled a shot from 25 yards out to put PBA up 2-0 in the 31st minute.  Both goals were assisted by Brandi Bianco.

Shortly after the second half began, Andrea Howell scored for Asbury to put the Eagles on the board.  Fortunately for PBA, that would be all for Asbury as PBA keeper Ashley Morrell and the rest of the Sailfish defense did their part, keeping the Eagles out reach.

Agnew’s goal was her 16th of the season, while Rodriguez added another goal to her season total of three.

PBA held a 14-9 advantage in shots, while also tallying three corner kicks, compared to Asbury’s one.

The Sailfish, now 12-12, will play their final game of the 2006 season on Monday, when they play first-seeded Trinity International in the tournament’s fifth place game.
