VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball team hit the road for yet another competitive contest on Friday evening as they participated in the first game of the Loop Pizza Grill Classic on the campus of Valdosta State University against the University of West Florida. A back-and-forth game that featured six ties and six lead changes in the second-half, the Argos held on late with some clutch shooting to earn a 66-61 victory over the Fish.

Palm Beach Atlantic (1-7) have now dropped their last five games as their early season struggles continued on offense as they connected on only 36.1% (22-61) of their shots while limiting UWF (3-3) to a 42.6% (23-54) shooting mark.

UWF was led in scoring on the night by Maurice Thomas with 15 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. It was Thomas three-pointer with 29 seconds left that put the Argos up by four points and eventually allowed them to run out the time on the Sailfish comeback efforts.

In fact, it was the Argos who were forced to make a comeback as they trailed by as many as eight points in the second-half despite holding a 28-24 lead at halftime.

After Thomas leading point total, Jonathan Jackson and Ervin Herron each reached double-figures as well with 14 and 12 points respectively.
