FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer team had an up-hill battle before them if they hoped to reach the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament after a one-year absence. Two second-half goals including the game-winner from freshman forward Alivia McDaniel led PBA to a 2-1 victory over North Greenville University.

Playing NGU for the second-time this month after a regular season contest a few weeks back, both teams were forced to make adjustments and hope to exploit the other team’s weaknesses. It appeared as if the Crusaders would prevail after one-half of play as Leah Ward scored in the 25th minute off a counter. Palm Beach Atlantic put together a number of solid chances but still couldn’t put a scoring chance completely together.

That changed in the second-half as the Fish came out of intermission fired  up and poised for a comeback. Junior and leading scorer Angie Kuhn got things started as she delivered on a shot from just outside the 18 that found the top right corner for a game-tying goal.

Nearly eight minutes later is when McDaniel connected for her first collegiate goal when she put home a shot from eight yards out to the near post for the 2-1 lead.

That is where things would stand as PBA senior goal keeper Ashley Morrell and the PBA defense would close things out from there as the Fish claimed their first NCCAA South Region Championship since 2007. Now in his second season at the helm of the Sailfish, head coach James Kryger and his now 9-8-1 team will move on to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida from December 2nd-5th.

After the championship match, three PBA players were among the honorees on the NCCAA South All-Region team. Junior defenders Alex Regin and Brittany Gahan as well as junior Angie Kuhn were all honored for their strong play throughout the season.
