Men's Soccer Posts Win Over Truett McConnell at NCCAA South Regional

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- In the second match of two on the campus of Emmanuel College for the Palm Beach Atlantic University soccer teams, the Sailfish men’s squad took on Truett McConnell College on Friday afternoon in the first-round of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) South Regional tournament. Coming away with a 4-2 victory, the Fish advanced to the Regional Championship for the fourth consecutive season.

Palm Beach Atlantic picked up their ninth victory of the season with the victory over TMC as the Fish jumped out to a 3-0 lead before a late comeback from TMC cut the score to only one goal. Freshman Charlie Hubbard tallied his first collegiate goal late in the contest to put the game back at a more comfortable and final tally of 4-2.

Junior Juan Villagrana opened up the scoring load for PBA with a score on an assist from senior Johnathon Clark. Clark then set up the second goal later in the half on a pass to freshman striker Gabe Carneiro.

Senior captain Cheyne Roberts then put home a penalty kick score for the Fish as they were in command 3-0.

Back came Truett McConnell however with back-to-back goals from the likes Alejandro Arraiz and Lamen Sawaneh to put the game at a much closer mark of 3-2 in favor of the Blue and White.

Hubbard’s late unassisted strike once again put PBA back in control as they closed out the first-round victory.

Senior Joe Yurchak made only one save on the day as he earned his ninth victory of the season in goal.

PBA outshot TMC by a final tally of 18-6 including a 14-3 mark in the first-half. TMC was whistled for 18 fouls and two red cards while PBA was called for only seven fouls.

Palm Beach Atlantic will take on Southern Wesleyan University in the South Regional Championship tomorrow afternoon, a rematch of last year’s final which witnessed a 4-0 PBA victory at Magic Jack Field.
