WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With the 2010 softball season set to begin in just a few short months, the Palm Beach Atlantic University athletic department would like to take the opportunity to recognize the 2009 Sailfish squad for their accomplishment of taking home the program’s first-ever National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship last May by presenting the members with their championship rings and unveiling the championship banner to be hung in the Rubin Arena.
This brief ceremony is set to take place at halftime of the December 1st, 2009 men’s basketball game versus Barry University in the Rubin Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. There will also be a PBA women’s game proceeding the men’s contest with the women’s team taking on Florida Tech at 5 p.m.
At this time, the players from last season’s championship team will be recognized as just the third Palm Beach Atlantic athletic squad to be named a NCCAA National Champion, joining the 2004 volleyball team and the 2005 women’s tennis team.
The Sailfish, led by head coach Kimmy Bloemers, shutout their opponents during the 2009 NCCAA World Series as PBA hosted the event for the second time at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex in Palm Beach Gardens. Bloemers was named NCCAA Coach of the Year while junior pitcher Ashley Jones took home honors of NCCAA Pitcher of the Year.
After their dominating performance, Jones was joined by teammates Heather Laird, Caitlin Bouschet, Candace Horton, and Becca Bolinger on the All-Tournament Team.
Join us on December 1st, 2009 as PBA honors these young ladies for their outstanding accomplishment.
