Lady Fish Compete at the FLRunners.com Invitational

TITUSVILLE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic Women’s Cross Country team made the trip to Titusville, Florida this past Friday to participate in the flrunners.com Invitational. The race was held at Chain of Lakes Park adjacent to campus of Brevard Community College and was hosted by Titusville High School. In all, ten colleges and universities throughout the state of Florida had runners take part in the 5K event.
While battling the blistering Florida heat, Palm Beach Atlantic’s freshmen sensations Katherine Harvey (21:35.91) and Faith Warren (21:39.27) finished 41st and 42nd respectively out of a pool of 99 runners to pace the Sailfish women. With strong showings of their own, senior Gina Battista (22:11.21), and freshmen Kayla Castro (22:13.30) and Berkley Simpson (23:09.49) finished 48th, 49th, and 66th to round out the Sailfish scoring attack.
The top five runners for the Sailfish were able to tally a strong 7th place finish among ten other colleges and universities. With a total time of 1:50:49.19, the Sailfish finished ahead of Warner University, Rollins College, and Florida College and finished just behind Saint Leo University (1:47:00.57) and Flagler College (1:48:32.10).
Also finishing among the top 100 for the sailfish were improving sophomore runners Danielle Navish (24:09.65), Chelsea Scalzo (26:44.89), Celia Brannan (27:36.83), and Brittany Smith (28:46.02).
The race’s top five runners represented Jacksonville University. Elsabeth Goshu, from Division I Jacksonville, was the race’s top runner with a 5K time of 18:01.49. As expected, Jacksonville also finished 1st in the team category with a total time of 1:31:39.10.
The Sailfish runners will be back in action on October 10, as they travel to Orlando, Florida to take part in the Walt Disney World Classic held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. For more Cross Country reports and highlights, please visit www.pbasailfish.com.
