WINTER PARK, Fla.- Taking on yet another nationally-ranked opponent, the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s soccer team traveled to #10-ranked and undefeated Rollins College on Saturday afternoon for a soccer double-header between RC and PBA. Leading 1-0 late into the first-half, the Tars tacked on two late goals before intermission to increase their lead to 3-0 and closed out a 4-1 victory over the Fish.
Remaining unbeaten on the season at 12-0-1, the Tars utilized a strong home field advantage at Barker Family Stadium as they made solid work of the smaller dimensions of the field of play. The loss drops PBA to a mark of 5-5-1 on the season.
Stephen Wright got the scoring started for the Tars with a goal at the 12:12 mark in the first half as teammate J.D. Gruenwald sent a cross from right to left into the box that Wright deflected off a PBA defender past PB A keeper Joe Yurchak for the score.
That’s where things would remain until late in the second-half when reserve Ryley Delgado capitalized on a breakaway attempt to take advantage of an easy opportunity in the 41st minute. Just eight seconds later, after the Tars stole the Sailfish kickoff, they would score again against a stunned PBA back-line when Nick Sowers lifted a cross to the foot of Dennis Chin who tapped the ball in just before it escaped the end line out of bounds for a 3-0 halftime lead.
RC led 3-0 in the goals department at the half however PBA was right with the Tars in all other figures with RC holding just a 7-5 shots advantage and a 1-0 corner kick lead as both teams defenses continued their solid work.
The second-half would witness a renewed focus by the Fish and much better play however it would be just a bit to late as all they could muster was a rebound goal from senior Anthony Mack in the 63rd minute to cut the lead to 3-1 while RC tacked on an insurance goal from Wright on an assist from Jaco Deloach right before the 80th minute.
PBA will be back in action next on Wednesday, October 14th when they take on Nova Southeastern University as they will hope to make it three years in a row with victories over the Sharks. The two teams will suit up at 7 p.m . in Davie, Florida for the match.
