LAKELAND, Fla.- While the full season doesn’t start until the spring, a few of the Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s tennis players traveled across the state this week along with head coach Chi Ly to participate in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship on the campus of Florida Southern College. PBA sophomore Krasimir Atanasov, the 17th-seeded player in the field, moved on as did Atanasov and Luke Bolanos in doubles action.
Now entering his second season as the top singles player for the Sailfish, Atanasov got his sophomore campaign off to a bang on Thursday afternoon as he defeated Florida Tech’s Jon Hanna by the scores of 6-4, 6-3 in the second round. Hanna earned the right to face Atanasov after defeating Andrew Johnson from Rollins College by the score of 6-3, 6-1. Being one of the top seeds in the field, Atanasov was awarded a first-round bye.
Atanasov will now prepare for his next round opponent which will be Lynn Universities’ Willi Wolfer who earned a straight sets victory in his first round action. Wolfer is the 9th seed in the tournament.
