WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Coming off a 2008-2009 season which saw a 12-win improvement from the previous season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball program is getting excited for what this year’s team can offer. Now entering her third season at the helm of the program, coach Robin Potera-Haskins has released the 2009-2010 schedule for the Sailfish women’s basketball team.
After winning only five games combined in the two season previous to last year, the Sailfish appeared to get better as the season went along as the young team rode that late season momentum all the way to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship game in Winona Lake, Indiana and finished with an admirable 13-18 final record heading into the offseason.
Armed with more talent and a deeper bench, the Sailfish look to improve once again in 2009-2010 with a competitive and tough schedule.
PBA will host 13 home games on the season including six of their first seven contests in the friendly confines of the Rubin Arena. PBA opens up their season on November 17th when the Fish play host to the University of Tampa at 7 p.m. Other early home games for PBA include Webber International University (Nov. 19th) and Flagler College (Nov. 21st).
The Sailfish, who compete in the NCAA Division II South Region, will take on many of their regional opponents in a home-and-home series. PBA will do this with Flagler College, University of Tampa, Florida Tech, Eckerd College, Florida Southern College and Barry University. The Fish also have home-and-home series scheduled with non-regional competition including Ave Maria University, St. Thomas University, and West Palm Beach rival Northwood University.
Should the Sailfish qualify for regional competition within the NCCAA, PBA would travel to Central, South Carolina on February 15th-17th on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University. The NCCAA National Tournament will once again take place at Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana from March 11-13.
